Tampa Bay Ray and Major League All-Star Ben Zobrist will be the keynote speaker at the 20th Annual Dallas Baptist Baseball Banquet on February 10, 2012, in the John G. Mahler Student Center on the DBU campus.Zobrist, a native of Eureka, Illinois, will begin his seventh year of Major League Baseball with Tampa Bay in 2012. He began his collegiate career at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, before transferring to Dallas Baptist for the 2004 season. He was named team captain during his senior year at DBU and helped lead the team to DBU’s inaugural NCAA Division I record of 44 -16 and the 2004 National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship. In December of 2004, Ben completed his Bachelor of Arts in communication from DBU.

The Banquet will also serve as a time to honor the 2011 Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team that finished the year 42-20 and advanced to the NCAA Santa Clara Super Regional, the first time in program history a team has advanced past the Division I Regional Tournament. Although the squad bowed out of the tournament at the hands of the Cal Bears, their #16 final ranking was the highest in school history and three members of the squad were selected in the MLB First Year Player Draft as Jason Krizan, Brandon Williamson, and Chris Haney all continued their baseball careers at the professional level. Also at the 2012 Baseball Banquet, members from the DFW Hall-Ruggles Chapter for Society of American Baseball Research will be on hand to present Krizan with the Howard Green Metroplex Collegiate Player of the Year Award.

Head Coach Dan Heefner will also share experiences and highlights of the historic run, as well as an outlook for the 2012 season and introduction of the 2012 Patriot Baseball Team.
