Special Olympics Texas Athlete that was an innocent bystander struck by gunfire at a DART Station

Eric Johnson, Special Olympics Texas athlete and karaoke singer, was shot to death on February 7, 2012, at a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) station in Richardson, Texas. Eric was an innocent bystander struck by gunfire when a man opened fire on a DART officer who was trying to apprehend him.

Law Enforcement Torch Run officers invite you to contribute to Special Olympics Texas to honor Eric, who enjoyed playing basketball with Special Olympics Team Plano and soccer with the Wylie-Sachse-Murphy team.

This Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraiser benefiting Special Olympics Texas will help us continue providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
