slateWilliam “Bill” Slate, 81, of Dallas, TX, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, February 8, 2016, at Charlton Methodist Hospital. Bill was born August 1, 1934, in Harlington, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Slate and Lorene Goble.

Bill is survived by his wife, Becky; Ex-wife, Lois and their daughters, Robin Deskins and her husband, Andy Deskins; Dr. Kelli Slate and her husband, David Nixon; and Karen Slate; grandson, Zak Burleson; sister, Elizabeth Goble and her husband, John Platt; nieces, great nieces and one great nephew.

Bill graduated from Tyler High School in 1952. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for thirty-eight years and retired in 1990 as District Manager-Procurement. For many years he enjoyed playing golf and was a member of The Golf Club of Dallas (formerly Oak Cliff Country Club). Bill was a Mason and was past Master of Sunshine Masonic Lodge #341. He loved animals and was a champion of those less fortunate. Bill once gave the coat off his back to a homeless man in downtown Dallas.

jaynesA memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 20, 2016, at St. Anne Episcopal Church, 1700 N. Westmoreland Blvd., DeSoto, TX. A reception will be held at the church following the memorial service.
