A week off from play seemed to rejuvenate the play of the Dallas Baptist Lady Patriots (18-8, 10-3) as they stormed past conference rival St. Mary’s (17-11, 5-7) in four sets Thursday night in Dallas. In a match filled with long rallies and outstanding defensive play, DBU won despite only hitting at a .178 clip for the night. Their season-high 100 digs helped keep them in the match long enough to hold off the Dustdevils by winning the final two sets of the match after splitting the first two: 25-20, 18-25, 25-20, and 25-19.

Cameron Hartson led the back row with 32 digs while four other Lady Patriots finished the night with double-digit defensive stats. Kristin Secord added 16 digs of her own and was outstanding at the net as well with a team-high 17 kills and six blocks. Markayla Benoit also turned in six blocks while Sarah Black recorded five of the team’s 21 on the night.

DBU held St. Mary’s to a .130 hitting percentage and Tyler Bradsher (27) and Kaycie Bird (22) combined for 49 assists in the match.

Dallas Baptist will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 10, against Texas A&M International at noon. Before the match, there will be a special ceremony to honor Kristin Secord, the only senior on the 2012 squad. The Lady Patriots will then prepare for the Heartland Conference Tournament to be held November 15-17 at the site of the conference’s first-place team. Times and opponents will be announced.
