UTPB Slips by DBU Lady Patriot Volleyball

Tyler Bradsher recorded a match-high 56 assists and Cameron Hartson chipped in 23 digs but those two efforts were not enough as the DBU Lady Patriots fell to UT-Permian Basin, 3-1.

After opening up Heartland Conference play with a win over Panhandle State, the Lady Patriots were able to to climb out to a 1-0 lead Saturday afternoon by pulling out a 33-31 win in Game 1. The two teams traded points over most of the opening frame and the Falcons took a 31-30 advantage before back-to-back hitting errors and a ball handling error gave the game to the Lady Patriots. “I thought we battled well – especially in Game 1,” said Head Coach Cathy Ray Kokel. “It was a back and forth game and we hung in there. We showed good spirit.”

The momentum, however, was short lived. DBU took a 1-0 lead in Game 2 – but that was the only lead they would have. The game stayed close, including a 22-21 score, but the Falcons rallied late to win, 25-22.

Game 3 saw the Lady Patriots jump out to a 6-2 advantage before watching UTPB rally to tie the game at seven. From there, it was all Falcons as they won the game, 25-20, and took a 2-1 lead in the match.

Game 4 followed the same script as the Lady Patriots held a 20-18 advantage before UTPB scored 7 of the next 8 points to pick up the match victory.

The Lady Patriots will be back in action Tuesday night as they travel to Durant, Oklahoma for their third straight game away from home. They take on Southeastern Oklahoma State University at 7:00 pm.
