UIL Announces District Realignment

The Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced the new district realignment for 2012-2014.

DeSoto will once again join Duncanville and Cedar Hill in what appears to be one of the strongest districts in 5A.

At this time the schools in District 7 – 5A are:

  • Duncanville High School
  • Cedar Hill High School
  • DeSoto High School
  • Grand Prairie High School
  • Mansfield High School
  • Mansfield Timberview High School
  • Midlothian High School
  • South Grand Prairie High School

Any conversations about appeals to the UIL regarding the redistricting center around Mansfield Timberview. Due to the Mansfield ISD opening another high school, Mansfield Lake Ridge, next year the enrollment at Timberview could drop as much as 1,100 students. The attendance for the new school will include all four grades and varsity sports programs in every sport. The drop could possibly put Timberview within the UIL’s 4-A classification.

The UIL takes the number for each school in October to decide classification, but the Mansfield attendance zones weren’t completed by the “snapshot day”  and weren’t considered in the realignment.

Mansfield ISD has until February 12 to request an appeal of their district assignment. Mansfield must notify the UIL and all schools in the conference and district to which it wishes to be assigned. The UIL District Assignment Appeals Committee has February 20 set for hearings on any appeals at the UIL offices in Austin, Texas.

For football in the 2012 season the Panthers have scheduled the following non-district games: Southlake Carroll for a scrimmage, Colleyville Heritage in Week 0, Abilene in Week 1 and Mesquite Horn in Week 2.
