A major accident involving a Dallas County Sheriff’s Department patrol car tied up traffic on eastbound I-20 on Friday afternoon and closed down two lanes of taffic.

According to car accident laywers based in Sacramento as well as public safety officials at the scene, just after 3:30 PM a Dallas County deputy sheriff pulled onto the right shoulder of eastbound I-20, just west of the Hill City Drive, to investigate a possible accident.

As the deputy was preparing to exit her patrol car, a blue Chevrolet SUV collided with the back of the squad car.

The deputy was taken to Baylor Hospital in Dallas by a Duncanville Fire Department ambulance and was conscious at the time she was transported.

Traffic was backed up on I-20 into Grand Prairie, and on Spur 408 to Loop 12.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident and trying to determine what caused the SUV to hit the squad car.

As of 5:30 PM the traffic was still heavy in the area, but all lanes of traffic were open.
