Track Opens Season in Missouri

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot track and field teams opened up their indoor season at the MSSU Early Bird Open, hosted by Missouri Southern State University, this past weekend .

Sophomore Kelsey Bruce got things started for the women with a second place finish in the 1-Mile Run with a time of 5:19.87. Freshman Ana Salazar was fourth overall with a time of 5:29.56. Senior Ashley Spivey and junior Julie Durrwachter were able to pick up NCCAA qualifying marks in the race, as well, with their times of 5:30.52 and 5:33.89.

Juniors Joshua Pauley and Jacob Phillips had solid runs in the men’s 1-Mile Run with second and third place finishes in times of 4:27.05 and 4:27.20. Both of their times were under Jacob Phillips‘ meet record from last year. FreshmanChris Springer was fifth in a time of 4:28.98.

In the women’s 800 Meter Run, Angelique Dupiton opened her DBU track career with a second place finish in a time of 2:31.16. On the men’s side, transfer Landon Massey was 10th overall in 2:01.98. Massey’s time was good enough to qualify for the NCCAA Indoor Championships.

Glynnis Meade ran to a fifth place finish in the women’s 3000 Meter Run in a time of 10:57.85. Her performance was good enough to pick up a qualifying mark for the NCCAA Indoor Championships. Teammate Jennifer Atkinson ran to a personal best in the event with a time of 11:41.85.

The final event of the day for the Patriots was the Men’s and Women’s Distance Medley Relay. The men and women were both able to finish second overall in the event.

The Patriot track and field teams will now be off for the Christmas Holiday season. The 2013 indoor season will continue on January 11th at the MSSU Lion Open.
