DBU Track and Field Finishes Season at NCCAA Championships

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Track & Field teams concluded their 2011-2012 Indoor Season this past weekend at the NCCAA Indoor National Championships, hosted by Cedarville University. Leading the Patriots with All-American honors was freshman Glynnis Meade and Hanna Rice.

Meade, a freshman distance runner from San Antonio, started the day off for the Patriots with a 2nd place finish in the women’s 5000 meters. Her time of 18:23.10 was a 25 second personal best over the distance. Meade also finished 6th place in the women’s 3000 meters. Freshman Kelsey Bruce led the way for the Lady Patriots in the 3000 meters with a 4th place finish in a time of 10:38.58.

Freshman Hanna Rice was rewarded as an All-American after her performance in the women’s 1 Mile Run. Rice finished in a season’s best time of 5:15.97, just two seconds from the National Champion. Rice was also in the women’s 3000 meters where she finished in 5th place. Junior Ashley Spivey was the only other scorer for the Lady Patriots with an 8th place finish in the 3000 meters with a personal best time of 10:57.43.

The Patriot men were led by Senior John Millsap in the men’s 5000 meters. Millsap was fourth overall in the race with a time of 15:25.00. It’s the third time that Millsap has finished fourth at the NCCAA Championships in the 5000 meters. The only other point scorers for the Patriots on the weekend came in a fifth place finish from senior Edwin Kiptoo in the men’s 800 meters and from sophomore Jacob Phillips in the men’s 3000 meters who finished 6th overall.

The Patriots will now turn their focus to the 2012 Outdoor Season which opens on March 8th at Tarleton State University.
