Duncanville to Play Midlothian at Noon on Saturday

Hundreds of competitors and spectators flocked to Duncanville on Friday, August 17 for the first day of the thirty-seventh annual Tournament of Champions volleyball competition at Duncanville High School.

The event, which draws the best high school varsity teams from across the state, runs this weekend (Friday and Saturday).  The event is a great opportunity to watch talented athletes battle for the championship title, and gives young players valuable experience as they head into another season of competition.

Duncanville Chamber of Commerce President Steve Martin says the benefits of an annual tournament with this kind of prestige can be felt throughout the community.

“It’s certainly a boost to our local hotels and restaurants, to have this many people converge at one time on our high school.  Hosting our visitors and fans locally means literally thousands of extra dollars to our economy.  It’s also a great opportunity to showcase our district’s excellent athletic facilities,” he explained.

An estimated 36 high school volleyball teams will compete in this year’s tournament.   For times, gym locations, brackets, and results, click here.
