Top 12 Things to Do in Duncanville this Summer

Summer is in full swing here in Duncanville and we’re very blessed to have many fun, summer activities right here in the City of Champions.  So as you are planning activities for your family & kids this summer, remember to check out this list of top twelve things to do in Duncanville!

  • 1)  Take a swim at the Duncanville Natatorium! – Open swim hours are Monday-Friday (12pm-5pm) and Saturday (11am-4pm).   They are also having water aerobic classes, lap swimming, and swimming classes.  Call (972) 708-2370 for more info.
  • 2) Celebrate the  4th of July!  – The City of Duncanville always has a variety of activities on Independence Day.   The Duncanville Lions puts on a great 4th of July Parade that runs down Wheatland and Main Street that morning. At sundown, the City hosts one of the best fireworks show in the region.   Make plans to come out early and celebrate our nation’s independence with a booming, good time!  Check out
  • 3) Attend a show at the Duncanville Community Theatre  – The community theatre has two great events going on this summer.  From June 11-22, they will be hosting a Drama Workshop for kids.  And in early August, Arsenic & Old Lace will be showing!  Check out  for more ticket info!
  • 4)  Eat a watermelon from Cox’s Farm!  Nothing beats a sweet watermelon from our local neighborhood market, especially while enjoying it at the pool!  Located at 1026 S. Main Street!  Drop by often to check out their specials.
  • 5)  Check out the “Fun Factory Party” Character Carnival at the Duncanville Public Library- Children are led by the character of the weeks like Sponge Bob, Mickey Mouse, Dora, the explorer  and others. They will join in games such as Hokey Pokey, Limbo, Hot Potato, and Hoop Basketball.  Each child will receive toys, stickers and stamps and a photo opportunity with their favorite character.   • 6)  Attend the Best Southwest Juneteenth Celebration.  – Live music, games, car show, and other kids activities will be available at the first-ever Best Southwest Juneteenth Celebration.  The Best Southwest area (DeSoto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill and Lancaster) is so named because of the cities’ ability to work together on projects that benefit Southwest Dallas County and  the event location rotates between the four cities each year.  This year’s event will be held at the Desoto Town Center on June 16 from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM.  Check out for more info.
  • 7)  Enjoy a Shake or Malt at Kitchens Deli!  Cool down this summer with a large variety of ice cream treats in a nostalgic atmosphere.  Located inside Ben Franklin Apothecary at 302 N. Main Street – in Downtown Duncanville.
  • 8)  Attend a Summer Concert at the Duncanville Amphitheatre –  The City is kicking off their Summer Concert Series on June 14th at 7:30pm.  It will continue most Thursday evenings throughout the summer  featuring great entertainment from the Shades of Gray, Me & My Monkey, DuVal & Ave Maria, and more.  Check out for more info.
  • 9)  Shop Duncanville – Find all sorts of unique gifts from several of our locally-owned boutiques and stores.  (Knick Knacks, Ben Franklin, Yastastic Jewelry, Gold N Things, Everything Nice, Glenda Kay’s Gifts, and many more)  Visit for specific business locations.
  • 10)  Play at Kidsville  / Armstrong Park!  – Kidsville resembles an amusement park more than a playground.  Designed with castles, space tunnels, bridges, mazes, slides, parallel bars, ladders, fire poles, a ship’s bridges, and much more.  It can keep your kids entertained for hours.  In fact, it’s a great place to plan a family outing!   Park has great amenities like picnic tables, paved walking trails, and much more.   Located at 200 James Collins Blvd by the Duncanville Public Library.    
  • 11) Bowl at Red Bird Lanes – Visit one of Duncanville’s oldest businesses and enjoy a great family atmosphere.  It’s also a great place to get out of the Texas heat and do a fun, recreational activity indoors!!  Located at 1114 S. Main Steet.

So as you can tell, there are some great summer events going on in town.  Please support all our local events & businesses and help make Duncanville the best ever!!  On a side note, for those who are wondering why I decided to pick twelve events instead of the common ten… I’m an Aggie and have been brainwashed from living in College Station for several years!!   The number twelve is always at the top of my mind!    Whoop!    🙂
