Tom Woodard May 18, 1931 – May 23, 2017

Tom Allen Woodard, son of James Neal Woodard and Lura Carrie Ivy, went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2017, at age 86. Tom was born May 18, 1931, in Ringgold Louisiana.

He attended high school in Winnfield Louisiana. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War achieving the rank of First Sergeant. He earned the Bronze Star medal, Korean Service medal with three service stars along with other National defense, NATO and good conduct medals. Upon return from Korea he enrolled at Louisiana Polytechnic institute in Ruston Louisiana. He obtained a B.S. in physics and a master’s degree in electrical engineering. During this time he met his future wife, Gail Tarver, and they were married, living in Shreveport Louisiana. After graduation he accepted roles of increasing responsibility within the work force. While working as a physicist for United Gas he invented a process which earned him a design patent on the process. After relocation to the DFW area he worked for General Dynamics, Recognition Equipment Inc. and the Siemens corporations traveling around the world supporting engineering and project management for postal systems. Tom and Gail settled in Desoto Texas in 1969 where they made their home and raised their family.

Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gail Woodard; sons, Paul and Tim Woodard; daughter-in-law, Tammy Woodard; and grandchildren, Madison and Nicholas Woodard. He was a loving husband, father and Pappy.

Memorial services will be 10:30 am, Friday, May 26, 2017, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
