Thirteen Top-10 Finishes for DBU Track and Field at MSSU

The Patriot Track & Field teams headed to Joplin, Missouri this past weekend to take part in the Missouri Southern State Lion Indoor Invite.

The Patriots racked up several seasonal bests and personal bests on their way to 13 top-ten finishes. Leading the Patriot Women with multiple top-ten finishes were freshmen Kelsey Bruce and Glynnis Meade. Bruce finished 4th overall in the 3000 meters (10:34.69) and the mile (5:19.69) and 8th overall in the 800 meters (2:28.98), while Meade was 2nd in the 5000 meters (18:48.77) and 6th in the 3000 meters (10:39.80). All of their performances were personal best performances. Junior Ashley Spivey was the only other Lady Patriot to finish in the top-ten with her 7th place finish the mile. Spivey ran a season’s best of 5:27.84.
Leading the way for the men were sophomores Joshua Pauley and Jacob Phillips. Both Pauley and Phillips had multiple top-ten finishes with their performances in the 3000 meters and the mile. Pauley was 4th overall in the 3000 meters (8:43.13), but challenged for the win in the mile (4:23.69). Unfortunately he was 0.4 seconds from the victory as he finished 2nd overall. Phillips was 9th in the 3000 meters (8:49.25) in a personal best time and 7th in the mile with a season’s best time of 4:26.50.
Also garnering top-ten finishes were seniors John Millsap and Zach Morgan. Millsap and Morgan went 2nd and 3rd overall in the men’s 5000 meters. Millsap’s time of 15:18.68 is a season’s best time, while Morgan’s time of 15:27.27 is a personal best.
The Patriots will be traveling to Lubbock, Texas this weekend to take part in the Texas Tech Indoor Invitational. This will conclude their Indoor regular season before turning their sights on the NCCAA Indoor National Championships.
