Texas Women’s Basketball’s Atkins Selected to Participate in College 3-Point Championship

Atkins’ career three-point percentage of 37.3 ranks sixth all-time in UT history.

TexasSports.com – Senior Texas guard Ariel Atkins is one of eight women’s college basketball players selected to the 3-Point Championship roster for the 30th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships. The event will take place on Thursday at Bill Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. Start time is slated for 8 p.m. CT and the event will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

Atkins, a 5-foot-11 guard from Duncanville, Texas, recently completed her highly decorated career at the University of Texas, playing in 121 games with 100 starts. For her career, Atkins averaged 12.4 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game. She finished with 1,497 career points, which ranks 20th in program history.

She was selected for the 3-Point Championship after being recognized as one of the nation’s finest shooters from three-point range. Her career three-point percentage of 37.3 ranks sixth all-time in UT history. Atkins made 117 career three-pointers, which ranks just outside of the school’s all-time top-10 for career three-pointers made. In her senior campaign of 2017-18, Atkins shot 42 percent from beyond the arc, which ranked second in the Big 12 Conference. She made a career-best 50 threes this season.
