Texas Vaccines for Children Program at Ben Franklin Apothecary

Ben Franklin Apothecary is a designated provider for the Texas Vaccines for Children Program which allows eligible children to received their required vaccines for free and pay only a small service fee to the provider.  (Ben Franklin – $10)    State law now requires students to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases and have proof of vaccination before a child is cleared to head back to school.

The State of Texas leads the nation in the number of uninsured and underinsured children; with over 3 million Texas children, 0-18 years, on Medicaid (FFY 2009). Many of these children are not receiving the complete series of immunizations required to protect them from vaccine-preventable diseases. Under the TFVC Program, the following groups of children are eligible to receive their vaccines for free:

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR FREE VACCINATIONS

  • Children who are *uninsured or whose insurance does not cover the required vaccines.
  • Underinsured (as defined by DSHS) – A child who has commercial (private) health insurance, but coverage does not include vaccines; a child whose insurance covers only select vaccines (TVFA-eligible for non-covered vaccines only): or a child whose insurance caps vaccine coverage at a certain amount. Once that coverage amount is reached, the child categorized as underinsured). Insured children with vaccine coverage who have high co- pays or deductibles are no longer considered underinsured. These children are now considered fully, privately insured and no longer eligible for TVFC vaccines.
  • Children who are insured through the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIPS).
  • Medicaid eligible
  • Native Americans or Native Alaskans

In order to ensure the health and future of the children of Texas, we need your help in getting the word out about the program.  Please help us get the word out about this wonderful program to help the eligible students in the region.  We also recently posted a blog about the subject.  (Click on link below)  This should answer most common questions that local parents may have.
