Sylvia Ann Springer Whitfield – July 31, 1935/June 30, 2015

WhitfieldSylvia Ann Springer Whitfield, beloved Mom, Mamaw, Nana, sister, aunt and friend entered the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on June 30, 2015. She was born July 31, 1935, in Waxahachie, Texas.

Being a premature baby, weighing only 2-1/2 pounds, she came into this world a fighter and remained a fighter throughout her life.

Sylvia spent her childhood years in Oak Cliff. She married the love her of life, Morris Wayne Whitfield, July 2, 1955. The family moved to Duncanville July 28, 1963. Sylvia loved sewing, reading, cooking, quilting and watching movies.

Sylvia had a servant’s heart and spent most of her life teaching Sunday school, leading the Girls’ Missionary Auxiliary, and teaching Vacation Bible School and Girl Scouts. Sylvia enjoyed cooking and prepared a plethora of meals, with a favorite being her famous chicken-spaghetti. Later in life, because of her deep love of children,

Sylvia became a house-mother at the Texas Baptist Home for Children in Waxahachie. She was a longtime member of Fairmeadows Baptist Church, Duncanville and later a member of Windsor Park Baptist Church, DeSoto. She blessed many by serving in both churches. Her golden years were lived at Crescent Point, Cedar Hill which she immensely loved.

While her earthly home has left many family and friends saddened, we rejoice in knowing she is spending eternity in her heavenly home.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Ramer Carroll Springer and Margaret Cora McElroy Springer; her husband of 33 years, Morris Wayne Whitfield.

She is survived by daughters, Carol Bolt and husband Gary, and Shari Shields and husband David; brother, Robert Springer and wife Cyndi; grandchildren, Brandon and Brandi, Jeremy and wife Tiffany, Jennifer and husband Cory, and Stephanie and husband Andrew; and 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and numerous loving and caring friends.

jaynesVisitation is 7:00-9:00 pm, Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel.

Services are 2:30 pm, Friday, July 3, 2015 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel.

Interment will be at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville.
