“A great day on the green!” is how many would describe the 15th Annual Champions for Children Golf Tournament, hosted by the Duncanville ISD Education Foundation on September 12. Sixteen teams teed off in the Florida scramble-style event, and several players also participated in putting, chipping, longest drive, and closest to hole contests.

At the end of the day, an awards ceremony and dinner were held, naming the foursome of Steve Davis, Mickey Adams, Mark Boyd, and Mike Hood the tournament champions. Mark Boyd was also named the putting contest winner. Bob Daniel won the chipping contest, Jennifer Wilson and Terry Webb were closest to the hole, and Paige Salinas and Kevin Phillips had the longest drives.

During the awards ceremony, several other donated prizes were also given away, including an $800 set of tires that went to Marvin Bailey. “Thank you to all the sponsors, players, and volunteers. This tournament would not be possible without you,” said Tournament Coordinator and Education Foundation Treasurer Jerry Frazier. More than $10,500 was raised to help the Foundation  provide innovative teaching grants throughout Duncanville ISD.
