Shirley C. Basa, beloved Mother and Grandma Shirley, passed away December 7, 2017. She was born December 30, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of John Francis Stanlake and Blanche Comstock Stanlake.

Shirley worked as a legal secretary for many years at the SEC in Washington D.C. She later went on to retire as the librarian at the Army Air Force Exchange Service in Dallas. Fun and outgoing, Shirley loved her friends and enjoyed having a large social circle. She loved to dance-in fact that is how she met her husband of 42 years, Rogelio. Travel was another passion for Shirley. She was well read and was particularly enamored with English history and literature. She took the trip of her lifetime in 2000, traveling to England.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Rogelio Basa in 1995; sister, Jacqueline Canha; father, John Francis Stanlake; mother & step father, Blanche Brown & Clarence Brown.

Survivors include: son, Roy Basa & wife, Lori; daughter, Debra Karamy; son, Jeffrey Basa & wife Anne Marie; son Kurt Basa & wife, Sandi; nephew, Manuel Basa & wife, Vickie; grandchildren: Sarah Holmes, Crystal Karamy, Jason Basa, Rachel Niblo, Cameron Karamy, Kevin Basa, Alec Basa, Brannon Basa, Nicolas Basa, Evan Basa & Mitchell Basa; great-grandchildren, Cooper Niblo, Claire Niblo, Elliott Karamy, Oliver Holmes & Jasper Holmes; niece, Susan Mendell.

Funeral Service is 2:30 PM, Tuesday December 12, 2017 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville.

Burial follows at Little Bethel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
