Saundra Jo “Snipes” Mayo May 5, 1937 – April 29, 2016

mayoSaundra (Snipes) Mayo was born May 5, 1937 in Brownwood, Texas to Worth and Ileta Snipes. She was born again trusting Jesus as her personal Savior at the age of 9 and baptized at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, just outside of Brownwood in the Early community.

She was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Cedar Hill, Texas. Saundra was an outstanding basketball player for Early High School. She met the love of her life, Benny, a student at Howard Payne University, her senior year at Early (1955) at Melwood Baptist Church in Brownwood. Benny and Saundra were married at Melwood Baptist Church, March 16, 1956 and had 60 wonderful years together. Saundra attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary while her husband was a student.

Saundra loved sports and encouraged her husband when he was a coach in Comanche following college graduation. She worked with youth in churches where her husband served as Minister of Education and Youth. She was great in counseling youth at her home and taking them to camp. Saundra was a gifted decorator for party events and banquets and her sense of humor brought smiles and laughter to those she was around. She had a compassion for giving a witness for Christ. Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Benny; Children: Penny Varian and husband, Lee, Kitty Yntema and husband Howard; Grandchildren: Charis Robison and husband Jacob; Austen Varian and wife Ashley; Hannah Hughes and husband Rick; Zachary Foster, Nathan Foster, Ben Foster, Owen and Ethan Yntema; Great Grandchildren: Rhett and Ladd Robison, Colton Varian, Sadie Beyers and Harrison Hughes. And a host of friends.

A Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, May 3, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 265 W. Pleasant Run Road in Cedar Hill, Texas.

A visitation will start at 10:00 am prior to the service.
