Ruben Bernard Ruiz, age 52, passed away peacefully with his closest family by his side on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Methodist Dallas Hospital. He was born March 10, 1964 in Denver, Colorado to Pauline Eguia & Lupe Ruiz.
When he was 20 years old he moved to Dallas, Texas. Within a month of arriving in Dallas, he met the love of his life, Paula, in August 1985. Ruben & Paula were married on April 5, 1986 and they just recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. Ruben was an avid auto enthusiast and worked very hard for almost 30 years as an Automotive Technician, or as he’d say, a good ol’ mechanic.
In 2010, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning & running his very own car shop. Ruben lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures – working on his many classic cars, wheeling & dealing & hanging out with his buddies at all of the local swap meets, listening to his favorite oldies and making trips back to his hometown in Colorado to enjoy the snow. But above all else, he was most passionate about being a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather and spending time with his great big family – his family was everything to him. He was known for giving everyone he loved nicknames of endearment like Muffinski, Bean, Big Head, Worm, Buckwheat, Babydoll, Dally Boy, Clueless, Shrek, Woman and Big Dummy.
Ruben was known for always having his pockets full of candy – both for his own constant sweet tooth and to always have on hand for all of his grandkids and nieces & nephews. His family and friends will most vividly be remembered for always styling in his fedora & dobbs hats and shades, although he could just as frequently be found in his holey jeans and big ol’ work boots. Ruben’s favorite mottos were, “If I don’t give you a hard time, no one else will!” and “Have faith, always have faith.”
Ruben was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Eugia, and his father, Lupe Ruiz.
Ruben is survived by his wife, Paula Ruiz; son, Ruben Ruiz Jr.; daughter, Meagan Estrada; son-in-law, David Estrada; daughter-in-law, Crystal Ruiz; grandchildren, Liam Mora, Dallas Ruiz, Catherine Estrada and his expected granddaughter, Addison Ruiz; siblings, Robert Ruiz, Ralph Ruiz, Richard Ruiz, Geraldine Rojo, Gina Fernandez, Ronald Ruiz, Juventino Eguia, and Alma Tate; his very Best Buddy, Kayden Holder; and countless other in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2016, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel.
