Rogene Holder – September 21, 1939/September 27, 2012

Sharon “Rogene” Holder, was born September 21, 1939, in Houston, TX.

She was the oldest child of Roger Q. and Matilda Hubbard.  She had one younger brother, Gerald (“Bubba”), who she loved dearly.  Rogene graduated from Milby High School, where she played clarinet in the marching band.  She amused her kids by singing the Milby High mascot song: “I’m a buffalo from the zoo.  I’m a buffalo proud and true…”.  Rogene earned her Bachelor’s in elementary education in 1961 from Sam Houston State University.  She earned her Master’s in library science from Louisiana State University.  She especially enjoyed LSU football games.

Rogene met her husband George while she worked as a librarian at Texas A&M University.  According to family legend, George handed her a note asking her out for coffee – then turned and ran!  She and George married 6 months later; they were happily married for 47 years.  Rogene worked at the Dallas Public Library for three years; but stopped to become a stay at home mom to raise their three daughters, Sharon, Janet and Katherine.  Rogene loved the Lord and His Word with all her heart; she and George traveled as missionaries to Costa Rica, Colombia, the Philippines, Nepal, Mexico and Guatemala.

After retiring from Southwestern Assemblies of God library, she and George spent the last five years of her life serving joyfully in Angeles City, Philippines.  Rogene was especially crazy about her eight grandchildren, Victoria, Abby, Caroline, Samuel, Isaac, Sarah, Nadia, and Joseph.  She delighted in shopping for them and taking them on outings.  She had a extensive collection of “Grandma” shirts.  Rogene made wonderful, lifelong friends wherever she went.  She and George have many adopted sons (with whom she watched Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers) and daughters from many nationalities.

Rogene went to be with the Lord on September 27, 2012, after a short battle with cancer.  We rejoice for her…but we will miss her so!.
