Robbery Suspect Arrested Within Thirty Minutes of Crime

Derek Dewayne Smith

Last Tuesday night a 24 year-old Dallas man learned that it doesn’t pay to commit a robbery in Duncanville.

Derek Dewayne Smith went into the Subway located at 150 E. Hwy 67 and demanded money. According to employees, Smith was acting as if he had a gun and demanded cash from the register. After the employees gave Smith the money, he fled the store.

Due to the fast actions of the employees, and using the provided outstanding description, the suspect was stopped and arrested a short time later.

“Police were on-site in four minutes.  An impressive and diligent pursuit took place that followed this guy around town until he was captured in less time than it takes to get a pizza delivered.  At 9:24 PM, Chief Robert Brown calls me to say he is in custody,” said storeowner Allen Conley.
