Rios Fires 77 in Final Round of NCAA Division II National Championship

Sophomore Mercedes Rios fired a five over par 77 in the final year of the NCAA Division II National Championship to conclude her National Championship campaign and her sophomore golf season as Lady Patriot.

Rios fired rounds of 84,82,83, and 77, for a four round total of 326 and good enough for 33rd place finish.  Rios’ 77 allowed for a jump of 11 spots after the conclusion of the tournament on Saturday.

“I thought Mercedes completed a great year of golf today by playing some solid golf,” shared Head Golf Coach Kenny Trapp. “She always grinds to the ery end and today was no different.  I am very proud of her and the year she had. I am looking forward to next year with some great players returning along with four new coming in,” added Trapp.

Rios’ will go down as the first Lady Patriot Golfer to qualify for a NCAA National Championship and will look forward to following her great accolade next year as a junior on the Lady Patriot Golf Team.
