Rios Fires 72 on Day Two of NCAA Super Regional Championship, Currently in 8th Place

Sophomore Mercedes Rios birdied her final two holes of the day in route to an even par 72 on day two of the NCAA Division II Women’s Super Regional Championship at the Wigwam Golf Resort Red Course.

After going out with a two over par 38 on the front nine on Monday, Rios rallied to record a two under par 34 on the way in and managed to move herself in to eighth place headed in to Tuesdays final day of compeitition.

“What a great day of golf for Mercedes,” stated Assistant Golf Coach Kristen Tucker.  “She showed great poise out there on the course and it was great to see her compete and birdie her last two.”

Rios is currently tied for eigth place out of the 48 contestant field and will tee off at 7:40 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, May 8, for the third and final round of the tournament.  You can follow all of the action on Golfstat.com for live hole-by-hole updates.
