All three scored in the top 3% – Only 3,100 high school seniors to receive award

650 backpacks handed out to children

E. COMMUNICATION FROM CITIZENS

Christi Horace came to express concern that the Cosmetology Department students were not being allowed to wear their satin letter jackets during the school day. These students  were told that only Band and Athletic letter jackets were allowed in the dress code however this is not stated in the dress code policy. She stated that these jackets are earned after a student has acquired at least 600 of the 1000 hours required to obtain their license, 20 community service hours, 10 advance education hours, 2/3 of their theoretical completed and maintain a B average. She asked the board to look into this matter and consider allowing the students to wear the jackets they have earned.

A. INDIVIDUAL TRUSTEE AND SUPERINTENDENT REPORTS TO THE BOARD

1. TASA/TASB Conference

Presenter: Tom Kennedy, Marlies Peregory, Marshal Wesley, Deborah Harris, Louis McElroy, Phil McNeely, and Alfred Ray

Marlies Peregory attended a seminar with Klein ISD and stated that she was very impressed with the usage of iPads, iTouch, and iPhones such as a use for a “technology study groups.” She also felt that Duncanville ISD is on the right path with keeping up with the integration of technology and education.

Louis McElroy agreed with Ms. Peregory and said DISD needs to stay on track with the direction they are headed with technology and education.

2. Manor ISD Visit / Task Force Work on Board Goals

Presenter: Marshal Wesley and Alfred Ray

Marshal Wesley said he was very impressed with his findings and hoped that Duncanville could learn a lot from the advanced educational technology use in Manor ISD.

 

*Board Members Dorothy Wolverton, Tom Kennedy, and Deborah Harris were not in attendance.
