Presley Powers Patriots to Victory

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Women’s Soccer Team earned their eighth straight win, Saturday, hosting and defeating Newman University, 4-1. The Patriots improve to 12-2-0, 6-1-0 in Heartland Conference play, dropping the Jets to 5-8-1 overall, 2-5-1 in conference.

Danielle Presley opened the scoring in the 28th minute, putting in a one timer on a pass from Ashley Cox, the only score of the first half. Newman countered early on in the second half, tying the game on an unassisted goal from Blair Terry.

The Patriots answered quickly and effectively, scoring a pair of goals in the next 10 minutes. The first was Presley’s second of the contest, 11th of the season, assisted by Lindsey Eccles. Eccles then added a goal of her own, scoring on a strike from 20 yards out.

Annie Wells added one last insurance goal with less than four minutes remaining in the contest, with Cox contributing her second assist.

All totaled, the Patriots drilled 29 shots, 13 on goal, compared to three shots for Newman, all on goal. Kerry Edwardsimproves to 12-2-0 with the win, registering two saves. For Newman, Kayleigh Renfro had nine saves to fall to 3-4-1.

The Patriots have just four regular season games remaining, two of those coming on the road next week. They will travel to McMurry University, Thursday, before going to University of Texas-Permian Basin, Saturday.
