tidwell-january_1358893309 (1)Peggy Jean Tidwell, also known as Grandma and Nanny, passed away on January 22, 2013, at age 74, in Dallas, Texas.  Peggy was born November 28, 1938, at her home in Burkburnett, Texas, to Rudolph Morris and Ena Mae Burleson.

Peggy came into the world at only 4 lbs. — so small, she was carried in a shoebox to a hospital in Wichita Falls.  In 1946, the Burleson’s moved to Oklahoma City, where the family remained for several years.  Peggy married Billy Joe Tidwell and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1957.  In 1958, Peggy and Billy Joe moved to Dallas, Texas, which Peggy called home for the next 55 years.  Peggy had an undeniable passion for her faith, her grandchildren, and fashion.

First and foremost, Peggy was a woman of God.  If you were in need of a prayer, you knew to call Peggy.  For many years, she attended the Gospel Lighthouse under the pastoral direction of Reverend J.C. Hibbard, Sr.

jaynesPeggy’s love for her grandbabies was well known by all who knew her — they were her pride and joy.  And her grandchildren always looked forward to spending time at Grandma’s, especially during Christmastime, her favorite time of the year.  Peggy could always be found wearing her best attire, including, of course, her high heels.  One of her favorite memories was a 2007 girls trip to New York, where Peggy shopped at Bergdorf Goodman in nothing less than her best outfit and highest heels.

Peggy was often told that she looked like Elizabeth Taylor and Connie Francis, and even toward the end of her life, people asked if she was a model.  Peggy was a beautiful woman, but will always be remembered for her beauty within.  The last months of Peggy’s life were filled with a constant presence of family and friends.  Not a day went by without a family member or friend by her side, sharing stories, laughter and tears.  All were blessed to have this amazing woman in their lives.  Peggy is loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew her.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph Morris and Ena Mae Burleson; and two grandchildren, Hattie Tidwell and Sophia Tidwell.  Peggy is survived by her two sons, Bryan Tidwell and wife Christi and Tony Tidwell and wife Betsy; step mother, Ann Burleson; sister, Judy Cryer; brother, David Burleson and wife Sharon; step brothers, Ronnie McDaniel and wife Patsy and Jimmy Morrow; grandchildren, Lauren Tidwell, Taylor Tidwell, Brady Tidwell and Greta Tidwell; a cousin, Tara Conner, who was loved as a grandchild; nephew, Brandon Longest; niece, Lori Briggs; great niece, Layna Longest; great nephew, Braiden Longest; and many more adoring family members and lifelong friends.
