Patriots Women’s Soccer Picked for Share of Heartland Title

The Heartland Conference recently announced the preseason poll for women’s soccer, selecting the Dallas Baptist Patriots and St. Edward’s University as the favorites to take the 2012 conference crown. The preseason poll was selected by the conference coaches and sports information directors.

The Patriots and Hilltoppers each earned five first-place votes in the poll, followed by St. Mary’s in third, Newman in fourth, and Texas-Permian Basin and TAMIU in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Both of the leading clubs earned conference championships in 2011, with Dallas Baptist earning the regular season title, and St. Edward’s taking the tournament title with a victory over the Patriots in the championship game.

Coming off a trip to the Round of 16 in the National Tournament in 2011, Coach Michelle Lenard will be looking to improve on her club’s 16-6-1 mark one year ago. The Patriots are ranked No.15 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Poll, and open play against Abilene Christian University, August 30, at 6 p.m. at Dallas Baptist.
