Patriots Women’s Soccer Defeat Lions Behind Eccles, Edwards

Thanks to a pair of Lindsey Eccles goals, the Dallas Baptist Patriot Women’s Soccer Team improved to 3-0-0 with a 2-0 win over visiting Texas A&M-Commerce, Wednesday night at Patriot Field.

Kerry Edwards turned in her second shutout of the young season for the No.9-ranked Patriots, turning away a pair of Lions (1-2-0) shots. Overall, the sophomore goalie is 3-0-0 on the season.

The game was quiet for almost 60 minutes, until Eccles broke the silence with an unassisted goal, taken from 20 yards out. The second tally from the freshman, who was named Heartland Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, Tuesday, came less than two minutes later, this time on a pass from Baylie Hill. The pair of scores runs Eccles’ total to five through the first three games.

Overall, the Patriots fired off 13 shots, eight of them on goal, while holding the visitors to just five shots overall, all in the second half. Tracey Rogers falls to 1-1-0 with the loss in goal for A&M-Commerce, while Allie Burks tallied both shots on goal.

DBU will hit the road, Saturday, taking on West Texas A&M University at noon. The next home contest will be played Thursday, against the University of Central Oklahoma. That contest is set for 6 p.m.
