Box Score

Taylor Massey (7-4) pitched seven innings and allowed only one unearned run on Friday night as the Patriot offense exploded for 10 runs in only seven times on offense as the game was called after seven-and-a-half innings due to lightning and storms in the Dallas area. Jordan Staples and Patrick Hicks threw the eighth inning as DBU (32-14) collected its fourth straight win with a 10-4 victory over Evansville (27-19) at Patriot Field. Joel Hutter collected three hits and fell only a triple short of the cycle while driving in three runs. Boomer Collins and Landon Anderson collected the only other multi-hit games for the home squad as the Patriots jumped out to a nine run lead before the Purple Aces scored their first run in the fifth inning. Massey struck out seven and walked three in his time on the mound and needed 104 pitches to pick up the win. Evansville had seven hits overall in the game to the Patriot ten. Hutter had the only homerun for the Patriots on the night.

DBU struck for four runs in the first inning as Austin Elkins set the tone for the night with a leadoff double. His double was one of four for the Patriots on the evening and pushed their total for the season to 96. The lone Patriot run in the third came as Hutter singled with one out and scored one batter later as Anderson singled to right and moved the third on an error by the rightfielder Jordan Chavis, the only error on the night by the two squads.

DBU pushed across four more runs in the fourth inning on an Elkins’ sacrifice fly, a Collins double, and a Hutter two run homerun. Evansville finally scored in the fifth to cut the lead to 9-1 but DBU would get that run back in the sixth as a Ryan Behmanesh walk with the bases loaded would score a run. Evansville got three in the eigth off the Patriot relievers but that is all the closer they would get as the lightning that had been threatening all night pushed into the area and halted the game for 40 minutes before it was finally called at 9:30 pm. The Patriots and Purple Aces will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm. The Patriot Pregame Show will begin at 1:40 pm on dbupatriots.com
