The 9th-ranked Dallas Baptist University Women’s Soccer Team traveled to West Texas A&M University, Saturday, bringing home a 2-1 win over the host club to move to 4-0-0 on the season.

The Patriots scored both of their goals within four minutes of each other, just more than 30 minutes into the first half.Courtney Baxter scored her first goal of the season, chipping a shot over West Texas (1-2-1) goalkeeper, Jamie Hall, with the assist coming from Kelsey Hall.

Lea Sedwick put the Patriots ahead by two shortly after, knocking in a rebound for her second tally of the year. The Lady Buffs climbed within one score, five minutes into the second half, as Leslie Briggs broke away from the defense on a pass from Lindsay McHorse, beating Patriot keeper Kerry Edwards.

From that point on, the DBU defense went on lockdown, allowing just one more shot the remainder of the contest, an attempt turned away by Edwards (4-0-0). Overall, DBU took 14 shots, half of which were on goal, compared to nine shots, five on target, by West Texas.

“This was a good result,” said Patriot Head Coach Michelle Lenard, “but we are still learning to deal with the pressure of being ranked and undefeated. This is a young team but has tons of potential.”

Lenard and the Patriots return to campus for their final non-conference contest, hosting University of Central Oklahoma, Wednesday at 6 p.m. Conference play begins in one week with the Patriots traveling to St. Edward’s University, Saturday at 1 p.m.
