Patriots Upset in NCAA Regional

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Women’s Soccer Team competed in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament, Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision to Colorado School of Mines. The No.4 Patriots conclude the 2012 season with an overall record of 18-3-0.

Colorado Mines (17-4-1) started the scoring with less than two minutes remaining in the first half, as Anna Evans scored on a strike from 20 yards out. Mel Westhoff was credited with the assist.

Evans struck again at the 54-minute mark, scoring an unassisted goal, her 16th of the season. Bree Archuleta scored the final goal, finishing a header on a pass from Becca Morales.

The Patriots, who had their 14-game win streak snapped, held the shot advantage in the contest, taking 13 compared to 10 for the Orediggers. DBU’s seven shots on goal were turned away by Colorado Mines’ goalkeeper, Jayln Yates (17-4-1). The Orediggers registered five shots on goal.

For Dallas Baptist, Lindsey Eccles and Danielle Presley each took four shots, combining for to put five shots on target.Kerry Edwards earned a pair of saves in the loss, dropping to 18-3-0 on the season.

15th-ranked Colorado Mines advances to play the winner of St. Edward’s and Metro State in the South Central Regional Final next week. SEU takes on Metro, Sunday at 2 p.m. in Austin.
