Competing against not only regional rivals, but also the windy conditions at the Tarleton State Invite on Tuesday, the Patriot Track & Field teams opened their 2012 Outdoor Track Season with 20 Top-10 finishes.

Leading the way for the Patriots was freshman distance runner Kelsey Bruce. Bruce won the Women’s 3000 meter steeplechase and also placed third in the Women’s 5000 meters. Both of the events were debuts for her. In the Women’s 5000 meters, teammates Glynnis Meade and Hanna Rice finished just behind Bruce in fourth and fifth respectively.  Julie Durrwachter and Linet Kibet were also in the Top-10 as they finished seventh and eighth in the event.

In the Women’s 1500 meters there were three Patriots in the Top-10. Junior Ashley Spivey had a fourth place finish, while Hanna Rice was sixth and Linet Kibet was 10th.

The men were led by senior Jordan Koser with a fourth place finish in the Men’s 1500 meters. Other Top-10 finishes came from the men’s 5000 meters where Joshua Pauley was sixth, John Millsap was 8th, and Zach Morgan was 10th.

The Patriots will be off for Spring Break next week before returning to action at the UTA/Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas on March 24th.
