Patriots Snap Streak With Win Over Corpus

The Dallas Baptist Patriots (4-5) stopped their five game losing streak Thursday night at Patriot Field as they defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-3) on a windy night, 14-9. Cy Sneed (2-1) collected his second win of the season and RJ Talamantes continued his torrid hitting with a 3-5 night, including an RBI.

Adam Hoelscher (2-1) picked up his first loss of the season for the Islanders after entering the game with no earned runs allowed in 15 innings pitched. Sneed, a freshman from Twin Falls, Idaho, out-dueled the junior right-hander as he threw six complete innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits, walking two, and striking out eight. Tyler Wilhelmwas the first Patriot out of the bullpen and he recorded a perfect inning. Kenny HatcherBlake Webster, and Jordan Staples followed, with Staples throwing the final 1.2 innings to close out the win.

DBU struck for 10 runs in the first three innings and hit six homeruns on the night, including the first hit of the season by Ryan Behmanesh who sat out the first seven games due to injury. Boomer CollinsRonnie MitchellKJ Alexander,Duncan McAlpine, and Talamantes also homered. For Talamantes, the homerun was part of his second three-hit game on the year, and also helped extend his hit streak to all five games he has started on the year. He is now batting .588 with an .824 slugging percentage.

The Patriots would tack on runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead and those runs would come into play as Corpus scored four of their own in the eigth. The game lasted just under three hours and Patriot pitchers recorded 10 strikeouts on the night.

Game 2 of the series is slated for Friday at 6:30 pm with Taylor Massey set to face Tim Keller on the mound. The Patriot Pregame Show will begin at 6:10 on the Patriot Broadcasting Network.
