Every player on the Dallas Baptist roster saw double-digit playing minutes on Thursday night in Dallas as the Patriots improved their conference record to 4-3 with an easy 86-43 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Patriots held OPSU to 26.7% shooting on the night – including a feeble 5 for 27 in the first half – while shooting 51.7% on their own offensive side of the floor. TJ Clark and Wesley Gipson led the way for DBU with 14 points while Tut Jikany shot 9 of 10 from the free throw line to rack up a career high 13 points in 23 minutes.

DBU took control of the game early and led 11-3 after a couple Clark freethrows just two and a half minutes in. That lead would blossom to 20 halfway through the first half and at the end of the first twenty minutes, Dallas Baptist led 49-20. DBU scored 24 of those points in the paint and held a commanding 18-3 advantage in points off turnovers.

The second half opened with much of the same on a three pointer by Armie Lewis and OPSU would never get closer than 32 points the rest of the game. DBU’s largest advantage was 46 as they controlled the glass (48-14 advantage on rebounds), the halfcourt game, and the paint. Ryan Marsh led all rebounders with seven while Gipson recorded six of his own.

The Patriots will turn around and welcome Heartland Conference leading Newman University to The Burg Center on Saturday afternoon. Monday they travel to Austin to face St. Edward’s and then have a full eight-day break before their next contest against St. Mary’s. Saturday’s game against Newman is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
