Thanks to a shutout performance in goal by Chuck Schober and a second half goal from Landon Lacy, the Dallas Baptist Patriot Men’s Soccer Team earned their first Heartland Conference victory, a 1-0 decision at St. Mary’s University, Saturday. The first-year program now stands at 3-6-1 overall, 1-3-1 in conference play.

After a scoreless first half, Lacy struck less than two minutes into the second frame, getting an open shot on goal and putting it past Rattlers goalkeeper, Patrick Kasperitis. The DBU defense took over the remainder of the half, allowing just two more shots, neither of which were on goal.

All totaled, St. Mary’s (2-6-1, 1-3-1) outshot the Patriots, 10-4, putting six shots on goal, compared to two for Dallas Baptist. Schober (3-4-1) registered five saves in earning his fourth shutout of the season. Kasperitis allowed the one goal and registered one save in moving to 2-5-0 on the season.

The Patriots will now look forward to their first home games in more than two weeks. Saturday’s contest ends a four-game road stretch that saw the club go 2-1-1, including three shutouts.

The DBU men will be at Patriot Field for a pair of games next week, hosting Oklahoma Christian University, Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and Newman University, Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
