The DBU Patriot Basketball Team (14-11, 5-6) faced off against Texas A&M International (21-5, 11-2) on Saturday afternoon in Dallas and came up short, 87-82, to record their third straight conference loss and make the final three games of the regular season all the more important for their conference tournament chances. Jordan McGowen andTJ Clark led the way for the Patriots with 16 point apiece while Nick Fox added 14 and Armie Lewis 13. The Dustdevils rode hot shooting for the victory, firing at a 62.7% clip for the game while the Patriots shot 45.8% percent, including just 6 of 18 from beyond the arc.

The largest lead of the game was eight when, with 3:30 left to play, TAMIU held the advantage over the home team. The Patriots fought back though to cut the lead to three with nineteen seconds left and had a chance to tie it when a Jordan McGowen three-point attempt from the corner with fourteen seconds left clanked off the front of the iron. Had that shot gone in, it would have been the 13th time the game was tied but instead, DBU was forced to foul and TAMIU was very effective from the free throw line in the final seconds.

DBU will return to action on Monday as they travel to UT-Permian Basin for a 7:00 game. UTPB is the same hunt as the Patriots, trying to fight for the fourth and final spot in the conference tournament so Monday night’s game is a big one for Blake Flickner‘s squad.
