The Dallas Baptist Patriots (27-11) scored two runs in the first inning Saturday against Indiana State (30-10) but that lead would evaporate in the bottom of the inning and DBU would ultimately fall, 6-3, to even the three-game series at one game apiece. Taylor Massey (6-3) was saddled with the loss after throwing 5.1 innings and allowing five earned runs, including four in the opening frame. Jake Johansen threw 2.2 innings of solid relief while allowing one run and striking out two. Sean Menaea (4-1) collected the win for ISU which sets up a rubber match Sunday at noon EST.

Austin Elkins, who finished the game with two hits and moved his hit streak to 17 games, led off the first with a single to centerfield and advanced to second on a Boomer Collins walk. Joel Hutter, who also extended his hit streak to 17 games, scored Elkins with a single to left and Collins scored a batter later as Landon Anderson singled to center. Manaea would pitch around further damage with a strikeout of Jaime Garrido and a groundout from Michael Miller to strand two runners.

Things would not go well for the Patriots from there. Massey allowed four runs on one hit in the bottom of the inning, hitting the first batter of the inning with a pitch and allowing the second to walk. Three runs would score on a Ryan Walterhouse homerun that curved around the right field foul pole and another scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Massey would settle down from there and allow only one more run in his outing but the damage was done. The DBU offense would only tally five more hits in the game after the first inning against Manaea and two Sycamore relievers and really did not threaten the rest of the game. DBU and Indiana State will conclude the series on Sunday afternoon at noon EST (11:00 am CST). The Patriot Pregame Show on will begin at 10:40 am in Texas.
