Patriots Falter Late Against TAMIU

Saturday afternoon in Dallas was a back-and-forth affair between Dallas Baptist (6-11, 3-4) and Texas A&M International (10-7, 4-3) with DBU surging back from a nine point deficit to take a brief lead in the second half with under three minutes to play. The Dustdevils, however, would close the game on a 12-0 run as the Patriots struggled to find room for open shots in the final two and a half minutes of play as four of their six shots in that time frame were desperation three point attempts as time was running down. Nick Fox led the Patriots with 18 points and Jonathan Perry scored 13 and pulled down five rebounds. Jason Gentry scored a career-high nine points while Jordan Kirschkescored seven points and collected four rebounds in 18 minutes of action.

The game was tied at the half and saw the teams trade baskets until the 10:27 mark when TAMIU went on a 8-0 run to stretch their lead to nine with eight minutes left to play. DBU would trudge back, though, and took a two point advantage, 61-59, on a huge Cory Carden three-pointer with 2:39 left to play in the game. But, the shot that inspired the hopes of Patriot faithful turned out to be the final points of the afternoon for DBU. Three turnovers and a missed three-pointer before desperation time was all the Patriots could muster against the Dustdevil defense and TAMIU converted on five straight free throws to close out the game.

The Patriots will return to action on Thursday night as they travel to Fort Smith, Arkansas, to face off against the Lions in conference play. Game time is set for 7:00 pm with the Patriot Pregame Show with Brendan Smith to begin at 6:45 pm.
