Patriots Fall to Southeastern Oklahoma, 69-67

Four players scored in double digits for the Patriots Saturday afternoon in The Burg Center but those points were not enough as the DBU four game win streak came to an end at the hand of Southeastern Oklahoma State, 69-67. TJ Clark led the Patriots in scoring with 17 points while Nick Fox had 15 and Armie Lewis and Jordan McGowen both picked up 12 points – but the Patriots allowed Southeast to shoot 54% overall in the game and 61.5% from three point range to hang on to their two point victory.

DBU held a 13-point lead with just over seven minutes to play in the first half. By halftime, that lead had dwindled to three. Eight minutes into the second half, Southeastern took a three point lead and never relinquished it. With 3:44 left to play in the game, that lead stood at four (65-61) and both teams went into a scoring freeze, not scoring another basket until the forty second mark when Urald King gave Southeastern a five point lead with a free throw. Clark cut that lead to two with twenty-eight seconds to play with his only thee pointer of the game but the Patriots would not score again until a Lewis halfcourt heave at the buzzer cut the final deficit to two points.

Dallas Baptist ended the game with 22 turnovers, 14 of which occured in the second half. They did pick up 15 steals on the night, a season high, with three each from Donovan Bridgeforth and Ryan Marsh to lead the team. Their 44% shooting, though, could not overcome the number of turnovers and they got to the charity stripe only 12 times -a very low number for a team accustomed to shooting twenty to thirty free throws a night. The Patriots will take a week off for final exams before returning to The Burg Center on December 17 to play Crowley’s Ridge College.
