Patriots Fall in Second Straight, Lose to Creighton

Dallas Baptist (34-16) scored a single run with two outs in the ninth to avoid consecutive shutouts for the first time since 1983. Creighton (21-23) scored a single run in the fourth and three in the sixth to win the first game of the three-game series, 4-1, with Taylor Massey (7-4) picking up the loss for DBU and Ty Blach (5-5) throwing a complete, five-hit game for the Bluejays.

DBU had a chance to tie the score at one in the fifth inning after Duncan McAlpine doubled to lead off the inning but he was stranded at third after a sacrifice bunt, a pop up in the infield, and a strikeout. Creighton scored three in the sixth the put the game away with two runs coming on a Scott Thornburg triple to right center after Massey had been replaced by Michael SmithPatrick Hicks finished the game for DBU with two innings of scoreless baseball while the Patriots avoided a second straight shutout when Ryan Behmanesh scored on a popup off the bat of Jaime Garrido that was dropped in the Bluejay infield with two outs.
