Seeking to avenge their Sept. 15 loss, the Dallas Baptist Patriot Women’s Soccer Team hosted St. Edward’s University, pinning a 2-1 defeat on the undefeated and third-ranked Hilltoppers. The Patriots move to 9-2-0 with the win, improving to 3-1-0 in Heartland Conference play.

The Patriots struck first in the contest, with Danielle Presley knocking in her team-leading ninth goal of the season, on an assist from Mia Romo. Both defenses took control until more than 25 minutes into the second half, as Lauren Heller finished a header for St. Edward’s, tying the game on an assist from Mikayla Engel.

Less than three minutes later, just moments after entering the game, Lindsey Eccles sent a crossing pass to Ashley Cox, who knocked in her fifth goal of the season, putting the Patriots ahead for good.

Kerry Edwards (9-2-0), who was named Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Monday, started and worked the full game in goal for DBU, allowing the one goal and registering two saves. Edwards earned a pair of shutouts last week in earning the conference honor. Overall, DBU outshot SEU, 9-8, with five shots on target for the home club, compared to three for the visitors.

Danielle Licarione received the loss for St. Edwards, who falls to 9-1-0 overall. The goalkeeper earned three saves and allowed the two goals. Heller put one other shot on goal, a strike from 20 yards out which was deflected high by Edwards.

The Patriots have now won five consecutive games, following the previous loss to St. Edward’s. They will take to the road again this week, traveling to Texas A&M International University, Thursday at 5 p.m., before heading to St. Mary’s University, Saturday at 12 p.m.
