The Falcons (6-9-0, 4-5-0) got on the board first, as Oscar Reyes scored an unassisted goal at the 13:42 mark in the first half. The Patriots countered three minutes later, as sophomore David Balyeat knocked in a penalty kick goal, tying the game at one.

The scoring stalled until the second half, when Gary Willis picked up a loose ball for UTPB, knocking it past DBU goalkeeper, Chuck Schober, to go ahead 2-1. Logan Sharp added an insurance goal eight minutes later, assisted by Reyes.

The Patriots mounted a comeback attempt just two minutes later, moving within one score as Matthew Steffensfinished a pass from Balyeat, his third goal of the season. The Falcons defense tightened up from that point on, allowing just one more shot on goal, turned away by keeper Chris Benavides, preserving the 3-2 win.

The box score shows an even battle, as each team took 13 shots. The Patriots held the slight edge with seven shots on goal, compared to six for the home club. Benavides (3-3-0) earned four saves, with Schober (4-7-1) tallying three.

The Patriots return home this week, hosting Texas A&M International University, Thursday at 7:30 p.m., before St. Mary’s visits, Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
