For the second straight night against Southern Illinois (18-17), the Dallas Baptist Patriots (23-10) fell behind early. For the second straight night, they rallied and held on late – this time to a 12-8 win with Taylor Massey (6-2) picking up the win and Michael Smith his fourth save of the season. Boomer Collins belted his 10th homerun of the season as part of a four-hit night while Michael Miller chipped in three hits and scored two runs. As a team, DBU tallied 15 safeties in the game with five of them going for extra bases. Austin ElkinsLandon Anderson, and Ryan Behmanesh joined Collins in the home run department.

SIU started the scoring with three runs in the second inning but DBU had an answer in the bottom of the inning and scored eight runs on eight hits, five of which scored with two outs. They sent 12 batters to the plate against SIU starter Cameron Maldonado to end his night and stick him with his first loss on the season against five wins. He walked one and struck out two in his two innings of work while surrendering the eight runs.

The Patriots would not score again until the sixth inning when the Salukis had closed the gap to 8-7 and chased Massey from the game. He lasted 5.1 innings, gave up 11 hits, and four of the seven runs allowed were earned. DBU gave Smith, who came in to finish the sixth – and the game, with a little breathing room when Collins homered with no one on base in the sixth. They would increase that lead in the seventh, with the damage coming again with two outs.Jaime Garrido was hit by a pitch with two outs and went all the way to third on a wild pitch. Miller singled through the left side to score him and scored the next batter as Elkins hit a towering homerun over the scoreboard in right field. That would end the scoring for DBU on the night and Smith closed out the game by throwing the final 3.2 innings and giving up only one run in the ninth inning and striking out four.

DBU will look to sweep the series Saturday afternoon as Andrew Elkins takes the mound at 1:00 pm. He will square off against Sam Coonrod and try to extend the DBU winning streak to three. The Patriot Pregame Show will begin on at 12:40 pm with a special visit from Executive Vice President, Dr. J. Blair Blackburn.
