Patriots Beat McMurry for Ninth Straight Win

After almost 60 minutes with only one goal scored, the Dallas Baptist Patriot Women’s Soccer Team exploded for four goals in a span of 21 minutes in a 5-0 win at McMurry University, Thursday afternoon. With their ninth straight win, the No. 14 Patriots move to 13-2-0.

DBU opened the scoring just before the 17-minute mark, as Dixie Kurrus scored on an assist from Lindsey Eccles. The game went quiet until the 60th minute when Lea Sedwick took an Ashley Cox corner kick and headed it to the low right corner.

Annie Wells also finished a header, less than three minutes later, also coming off a corner kick from Cox, as the Patriots moved ahead 3-0. Danielle Presley tallied the final two scores, the first on an assist by Jake Cox, and the second by Courtney Baxter.

Overall, the Patriots dominated control of the ball, taking 30 shots and holding McMurry (3-9-1) to four, all of which were on goal. DBU put 18 shots on goal, as Warhawk goalkeeper Shelby Sova (1-3-0) registered 13 saves in the loss.

Kerry Edwards earned four saves for her seventh shutout of the 2012 season. The sophomore moves to 13-2-0 on the season.

The Patriots will remain on the road, Saturday, competing in their final road Heartland game of the regular season, at University of Texas-Permian Basin at 12 p.m.
