Patriot Track Competes at Tech Masked Rider Open

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Track and Field teams took part in the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open this past weekend in Lubbock, Texas. Competing for the second time this year on the indoor oval the Patriots looked to carry on their success from their Indoor Opener last weekend at Missouri Southern State University.

Leading the way with a fifth place finish in the Women’s 3000 meters was Kelsey Bruce. Her time of 10:39.41 was good enough to qualify her for the NCCAA Indoor National Championships. Behind Bruce were teammatesJulie Durrwachter in eight place with a time of 10:52.64 and Ashley Spivey in 10th place with a time of 11:05.80. All three ladies are currently qualified for the NCCAA Indoor Championships in the Mile and 3000 Meter Run.

rp_primary_delordBruce also led the way for the ladies in the Mile Run earlier in the day where she finished 10th overall with a time of 5:20.43. Behind her was Durrwachter in 12th with a time of 5:23.79 and Hanna Rice in 15th with a time of 5:26.08.

Sophomore Glynnis Meade had a fifth place finish for the Lady Patriots in the 5000 Meter Run with her time of 19:11.67. Meade has now qualified for the NCCAA Indoor Championships in the 3000 Meter and 5000 Meter Run.

Sprinter Joshua DeLord picked up an NCCAA Indoor qualifying time in the Men’s 55 Meters with his 23rd place finish and time of 6.65. DeLord will join teammate Devon Wright at the NCCAA Championships in the 55 Meters as Wright qualified last week at the MSSU Opener.

Jacob Phillips led the distance crew this weekend with his 12th place finish in the Men’s 3000 Meter Run. His time of 8:58.30 was good enough to qualify him for the NCCAA Indoor Championships. Phillips has now qualified for both the Mile and 3000 Meter events for the NCCAA Indoor Championships.

The Patriot Track and Field teams will be off this weekend before traveling back to Joplin, Missouri for the MSSU Lion Invite on February 1st and 2nd.
