Patriot Soccer Opens with 2-0 Win

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Women’s Soccer team opened the 2012 season with a 2-0 win over visiting Abilene Christian University, Thursday evening at the Patriot Soccer Field.

Lindsey Eccles opened the scoring early, knocking in a loose ball two minutes into the contest, with Ashley Coxearning the assist. The game went quiet until 17 minutes into the second frame, when Danielle Pressley took a pass from Lea Sedwick and cruised through the ACU defense to score the break away goal.

The Patriots kept the pressure on the visitors throughout the contest, getting off 19 shots, including 11 on goal. Sedwick led the way, getting four shots on target. For ACU, Arielle Moncure (0-1-0) recorded nine saves in the loss.

Kerry Edwards, defending NSCAA All-Region goalkeeper, earned her first win and first shutout of the season, saving both of the Wildcats shots on target.

The Patriots take to the road, Saturday, challenging Texas Woman’s University in Denton. The game is set to start at 7:30 PM.
