The DBU Bass Team got off to a rough start on day one of the 2012 Carhartt Bassmaster College National Championship Wednesday on the Arkansas River.  Soon-to-be Sophomores Jacob Sepeda and Trent Newman managed to net only one keeper-fish on day one as they battled the tough conditions on the Arkansas River during July.

“Pre-fishing went well for us and we were able to find a primary spot on the river that unfortunately was a little crowded on tournament day.  We carried out our game plan but realized the fish just weren’t going to bite with the large amount of boats in the area,” shared Newman.

Given the format of the National Championship, the Patriots will have to finish in the top-five teams out of the 57-team field in order to advance on to the championship round on a “mystery” lake on Friday.  Currently, the Patriots stand just six pounds, 15 ounces shy of a final day, “mystery” lake berth.

The Patriots will fish on Lake Maumelle in West Little Rock, Arkansas, on Thursday for day two of the National Championship.” Day two is going to have to be a big day for us, stated Sepeda. “We’ll just put it all in the Lord’s hands and with whatever the result may be, we are just blessed to be here fishing in the national championship.”
