Despite incredibly cold and snowy conditions, the Patriot Bass Fishing Teams finished 7th and 20th on Table Rock Lake last Friday and Saturday in the Cabela’s Big Bass Bash in Branson, Missouri.  With nearly five inches of snow on the ground, the 149-team field battled wind chills as low as 10 degrees on Table Rock in pursuit of the largest bass possible for the unique Cabela’s Big Bass Bash format.

Friday’s and Saturday’s tournament sessions consisted of four different weigh-in opportunities in which anglers could bring in their catch in hopes that their fish was the largest of the particular weigh-in sessions.  Led by SophomoreJacob Sepeda, the Patriots weighed in their fish in multiple weigh in sessions on Friday and Saturday.  Sepeda weighed in his catch of 3.82 pounds at the 11:30 a.m. weigh session on day one but would not cease in pursuit of a bigger bite.

Day two for the Patriots was one to go down in the records books, as Sepeda, Sophomore Trent Newman, and Freshman Chase Winston would all weigh in nice fish despite the snowy and foggy conditions.  In session one on day two, Newman weighed in a gorgeous 4.01 pound bass that would eventually take second place.  It was in session three on day two that Jacob Sepeda would net a 6.09 pound monster bass that would secure the session three victory for the Patriots.

“It was a fun and foggy tournament with a lot of snow and unbelievably cold.  However, when the fish would eat on the Alabama Rig, you quicly forgot about the cold,” stated Newman.  Sepeda added, “Always enjoy fishing the Boat US Cabela’s Big Bass Bash tournaments.  Always a well ran tournament as each angler tries to catch big fish and not your normal five-fish limit.  The fishing was slow but when you got a bite, hang on – because it was a good one!”

Freshman Chase Winston also contributed to the Patriot’s succes as he hooked and weighed a solid tournament bass of 2.58 pounds and nearly matched the efforts with an additional 2.23 pound fish shortly after.  “Always a great day when you get to fish out of a Legend Boat, even when it is 15 degrees!”

The Patriot Bass Fishing Team will be back in action April 18-20, as they travel to Paris, Tennessee, to compete in the Pepsi Bass Fishing Open on Kentucky Lake.
