Panthers Walk Over The Warriors 30-9

South Grand Prairie should have scheduled another homecoming opponent if they wanted to celebrate a win that night as Duncanville waltzed in and dominated the game from the beginning, taking the 30-9 victory.

Duncanville is now 6-1 in district 7-6A and stands alone in second place. The Panthers take on first place DeSoto next Friday at home in a 7:30 p.m. contest.

The Panthers scored first with just over two minutes left in the first quarter on a Jaylin Nelson to Isaiah Upshaw 29-yard pass to the right corner of the end zone. The Josh Delgado PAT put Duncanville up 6-0 and it was not close the rest of the night.

Delgado would score again in the second quarter on a 35-yard field goal to put Duncanville up 10-0.

The lone defensive bright spot for South Grand Prairie came with Duncanville pinned deep in their own territory when Nelson was dropped for a safety to give SGP 2-points.

Nelson would score on 9-yard run with 1:15 left in the first half to take a 17-2 lead, with the Delgado PAT.

SGP shocked the Panthers when Warrior QB Nakia Brown found Terrell Lightfoot down the middle of the field with a 52-yard pass for the touchdown. The Ethan Martinez PAT with 12 seconds left in the half closed the gap to 17-9 in favor of the Panthers.

The Panthers would score twice in the third quarter to close out scoring for the game. Nelson had a 24-yard touchdown run and then Nelson hit Odell Smith on a 24-yard pass for a touchdown. The PAT on their final score was no good to give the final 30-9 score.

Duncanville is currently the only area 6A team with both the offense and defense statistically in the top 10 rankings. The Panther offense is shown at number 8, while the defense is number 2.

The Panther defense held the Warriors to only 162 yards, while they had averaged 346.5 yards per game coming into the game Friday night. They also forced the Warriors to punt 8 times, and to turn the ball over on downs two other times.

For the game, Duncanville racked up 377 total yards, 136 yards passing and 241 yards rushing. SGP got their 161 yards on 116 yards passing and 45 yards rushing.

Jaylin Nelson was 13-22 for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns for Duncanville. Nelson also led all rushers with 83 yards on 14 attempts for 2 touchdowns. Tre Siggers was the leading receiver with 9 catches for 73 yards.

For the Warriors, Nakia Brown was 10-19 passing for 114 yards and 1 touchdown. Atanza Vonogor had 36 yards rushing on 8 attempts and Terrell Lightfoot had 3 catches for 66 yards to lead the Warrior receivers.

Defensively Miquan Mayes led with 7 tackles, and both Keyshawn Johnson and Marcus Mosely had 6 tackles each.
